The famous legendary
Kyaikhtiyo pagoda is also well known as
Golden Rock. It is located in the Mon State.
It is the largest domestic tourism centre
located about 160 km from Yangon. Now, it is
accessible by car. Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda stands
on a gold gilded boulder precariously
perched on the edge of the hill over 3,615
feet (1,100m) above sea-level. There are
many legends about the pagoda and Nat
(spirits) shrines along the 11km uphill hike
from the base camp to the pagoda. There is
also a popular belief that one will gain
more wealth every time he climbs the Hill.
The pagoda itself is only about 15 feet
high, but it is a breath taking scene to see
it in reality. |
